Early in his career, Matisse was grouped with painters known as the “Fauves,” which translates to “Wild Beasts.” His bright, expressionist color was a gateway to modernism. Late in life, due to illness, Matisse could no longer paint…so he applied what he knew about art draftsmanship to collaged paper cut-outs that were perfection in 2-Dimensional design.

Seen here is Matisse’s “Bathing Woman.” Please forgive the liberties I took with the Great Master’s original proportions.
